About the event:

Associate Professor Madhu Bhaskaran will be speaking about planning the PhD candidature with a focus on gaining (and imparting) skills and knowledge, becoming independent, and building a competitive CV towards potential job applications. She will share her experience as a PhD student as well as the experience of supervising many HDR students with specific focus on strategic planning and enhancing and broadening the student experience.

Dr. Alexe Bojovschi believes One’s path to wherever one wants to reach is within him. The talk will address some key skills that one has to improve upon to be competitive in an ever-changing market place. He will also share his experience in navigating in an academic, industrial and start-up environment.



About the speakers:

A/Prof Madhu Bhaskaran co-leads the Functional Materials and Microsystems Research Group at RMIT University. Her research interests include functional oxide thin films and flexible electronics. She has published over 85 journal articles. She has won several awards and fellowships for her research including competitive Australian Research Council Postdoctoral Fellowship (2010-2014) and Australian Research Council DECRA Fellowship (2016-2018). She has also won a Victoria Fellowship and has been named as one of Top 10 Innovators under 35 for Asia (MIT Technology Review 2016). She obtained her PhD from RMIT University in 2009.

Dr. Alexe Bojovschi is the CEO of Academy of Innovative Business (AIB) and the Innovation & IT Director of International Innovative Research Network (iiRNet). He received a Ph.D. degree in Computational Science from the School of Information and Communication Technologies, Swinburne University of Technology. He then spent six months as a Research Intern at Victoria Partnership for Advanced Computing. Subsequently he joined RMIT where he worked on an Australian Discovery Grant, with power companies (AusNet and EMCPacific) and defence organizations (Australian Defence Science and Technology Organisation and American Airforce Laboratories) on power network and sensing technologies. Later on he joined IBM Australia as a Research Staff. His research work led to breakthrough innovations in power networks, which led to IND-technology Company, Radar technologies for avionic platforms and Flotation technologies for Mining and eWaste sector. His main interest is in technology and business innovation.


Light refreshments will be provided at the event. Traces of nuts and milk products may be present in the refreshments provided.
